Character info:
Behind-the-Name: CATHASACH m Ancient Irish
Pronunciation: KOH-a-sokh
Origin: Irish Gaelic
Meaning: Vigilant in battle
Gender: Male
Pronouns: He / Him
Species: Beithir closed species (c) Beithir (FurAffinity)
Age: 24
Height: 7'9"
Weight: 300 lbs
Gender Preference: Bisexual (Switch)
Likes: Tattoos, watching the sunrise, finding new berries or food to eat. Fish,
Dislikes: Having his sleep disturbed. Prey being killed for sport.
Personality: Cautious and inquisitive, he will scent, test and challenge you to see if you are worthy of trust. In social settings, especially with other dominant males, he can be a bit rough, nudging or elbowing, clapping on the back, the occasional brawl. To those in his inner circle he is loyal and sensitive, and will problem-solve and listen to woes in the interest of helping the other person grow. He might grow as well, himself! He seeks knowledge and understanding of the world, which brought him more into civilization. He is always drawn back to his territory and itches to feel the wind and trees and thus doesn't stay in the modern world for long.
Mate: He has only ever known 2 fleeting relationships. The first, a female which was with his cub, who died in the altercation with a grizzly bear that left him scarred and her removed from this world. The other was a thin, smaller male, who had entered his territory weak and malnourished. Instead of confrontation he nurtured and fed this male and they enjoyed a budding intimacy. A couple years after the male had recovered, his strength returned, he longed to secure his own territory and mate for cubs, and so parted ways. At times of quiet he misses both his partners and tries to remember the joy they brought over the sadness of the parting.
Breeding Habits: Depend mostly on where their territories are. If their territories are near each other, they could maintain a relationship. If not, they would meet only to satisfy heat and sire a child, moving on likely never to see their brief mate again. Or if they're city dwellers who only venture to their territories during full moon for their change, they could have a more 'typical' relationship.
Class: Druid - He became a druid in order to maintain his wits while in his full wereform. This ended up only holding him back in a minor way, as the instincts are powerful as iron. But he learned a love of nature and it's medicines and sustenance through his craft that brings him much peace in his natural state. The wounds he receives while feral are much easier dealt with now.
Abilities: Magnifies the effects of healing herbs. Draws energy from tree spirits to speed up the healing of potentially lethal wounds. Can transform into a full bear or wolf that can blend into the wild, but only for a couple hours at a time. He maintains his intellect during these transformations and it teaches him about his wereform and how to handle himself. Grants himself "eagle vision" to see vast distances with clarity or "wolf spirit" to travel far with much endurance.
More Species Info:
Size: Size wise, they can range anywhere within the realm of people sized, to around 8' tall when standing.
Lifespan: they aren't immortal but they do live incredibly long lives. Long enough that they become legend in their territories, and others think they are immortal. They have lived up to 500 years.

-~*~- Details -~*~-
Beithir are very rare creatures, hardly ever seen, and even more rarely believed in. Nathrach is no exception. They dwell in the highlands, only venturing out in the dark of night, when the only thing lighting the sky are flashes of lightning. Being a solitary creature, not much is known of them. It would take a great feat of fealty to become close enough to gain their confidence.
Nathrach spends much of their time in the shallows of the docks below the decrepit Ardvreck Castle in Loch Assynt. The only time they emerge fully into the open waters of the loch is during the dead of night, due to their untrusting and cautious nature. Even then, they tend to spend some time in the shallows first, to be sure there is no risk of being spotted should they decide to come out. This is when they are at their most content. Entirely alone, accompanied only by the sounds of the lapping water, creatures who prey on small swarms of insects, and the strong gusts of wind.
Nathrach doesn't have to eat very often, no more than twice a month, so they manage to maintain their isolation quite easily. But when they do need to eat, they head out to the nearby forests and take advantage of the terrain to stretch their muscles and run freely, under cover of the ancient trees surrounding them. And relishing the feeling of soft soil beneath their feet, the ability to use their claws to their full potential and dig them into the earth as they run, and the lack of caution that typically needs to be felt, being shed for these rare outings.
They kill their prey quickly, either by eviscerating them with their claws, or by coiling their tail tightly around them and constricting. Oftentimes when they are satiated following their meal, they will curl up in the roots of some great tree, and sleep for a day before heading back to their home in the loch.

The local fauna have learned that once fed, Nathrach is a very kind and warm soul, allowing such smaller species to burrow into their fur and share in their body heat. This also allows the smaller creatures to let their guard down in the relative safety of Nathrach's calm presence, being that the legendary Beithir is widely feared in their region. Safety being a feeling not oft felt by prey species, they are all too happy to swarm Nathrach and curl into them. As they all drift to sleep, the fauna are treated to an even rarer treat, that of Nathrach quietly humming a tune, deep in their chest. The low reverberations are calming, and a restful sleep is had by all.
While Nathrach is indeed more feral when in their were form, they don't actually completely lose access to their higher mind. Their instincts are driving so to speak, but very occasionally, they will find themselves in a place where they aren't actively doing anything. Not hunting, not stalking their territory, nothing. They just sit, and exist. The irony of their feral form being capable of such peaceful inactivity though, was unfortunately lost on them, until they transitioned back into their typical form following the full moon.
Beithir have fully prehensile tails and tongues, and can fully sit or suspend from their tail.
Their markings glow brightly in darkness.
They can be extremely territorial.
Beithir have were-forms and the transformation can be quite painful. Depending on the strength of the moon this stage can be longer or shorter. They're more instinctual and animalistic during this stage.
Bitten by a were-creature, Nathrach will forever experience a painful and bloody transformation each month, in the form of their compulsion to rip away their snakelike features, revealing more of the bear beneath. They are always sure to feed before the full moon, so as to head off their blood lust once changed. They maintain their already hard won isolation during this time, reaffirming their territory as their own while they stalk around their lands and make sure their presence is felt by any who may dare to trespass.
This works also in their favour when they are not transformed, during most of their existence, as they do not have to worry about unwanted interactions and forceful socialization thanks to their efforts while changed.
Leading up to the blood moon, the wolf moon, Nathrach is particularly aggressive. The energy in the air affects all were creatures during this time, not just wolves. Those close to Nathrach give them a wide berth, allowing them to be a little more free with their aggression, and not worry about accidentally hurting them. As Nathrach would never forgive themselves if they hurt someone they loved. After the blood moon, which is very hard on were creatures, Nathrach's friends offer aftercare in the form of cuddle puddles, soft words so as not to disturb the peace, and a constant flow of tea.
